Back in 1986, no one was serving delicious flame grilled chicken like our founder Antonio Cerqueira used to find back home in Portugal. So he decided to open a chicken shop in North Bondi serving a taste of home, our now famous Flame Grilled Portuguese Chicken and Original Chilli Sauce. Our philosophy has always been simple, we care about creating delicious food that makes you, our familia, feel good. We know that every choice we make today affects all of us tomorrow. That’s why we are committed to making a positive difference. We have only just begun to take steps in the right direction, but we’re constantly making changes big and small that we hope will make the world a better place. Learn more about our journey below…
CARDBOARD TO CROCKERY
In 2018, we transitioned into using crockery in our restaurants for dine-in experiences to make you feel at home when you visit us and reduce our waste footprint. To date, this shift has meant that we have diverted more than 20 tons of waste and 727,640 cardboard containers from landfill. The next time you eat with us, take a little time out to eat in and save the earth.
We believe in treating our birds right, because better welfare equates to better quality food. Our chicken is 100% Australian and proudly RSPCA Approved. Our farms take pride in raising chickens in an enriched barn environment where the chickens enjoy space to move, have good lighting, and can perch, dustbathe and forage.
Giving back means a lot to us and generosity is part of Oporto’s DNA. That’s why we have partnered with Foodbank to do our part to fight food insecurity across Australia. On a grassroots level, we sponsor over 100 local sports teams, and our football familia is continually growing! We’re always looking for new ways to make a difference in the community.
